I lived life behind secure locks
Within the limits of my box.
Bored but content, out of harm’s way,
I was complacent in the dark
Until you came and lit the spark
That chased obscurity away.
You started a blaze so divine
It penetrates my confine,
And keeps murky shadows at bay.

Dwarfed by sprawling forestry,
Meager little elfin tree.
Eager to find the largest prize,
Crowds trampled over those her size.
When I found her laying in the snow,
She brought to my mind this girl I know.
Meek, different, but brimming with potential,
I set out to prove her consequential.
Confident in her new attire, she shone bright.
N’er had one stood taller igniting the night.
Colorblind, undiscerning, he sees not love, he sees not hate.
In the end he’ll collect us all, he does not discriminate.
Sinners, saints, rich or poor, men without conscience, she who atones,
He butchers paupers and peasants and harvests kings from their thrones.
Worldly possessions be damned. He is not enticed by raw lust.
He is incorruptible, methodical, moral and just.
There is nothing certain in this world, but in Death we can trust.
He anticipates impartially our expiration date.
We are identical in his eyes, merely flesh upon bone.
Our destiny is equal, ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
She is beautifully broken,
A stunning mosaic of shards,
Her undoing was foretoken,
She is beautifully broken.
Her fate is sealed but unspoken,
Her psyche is a house of cards,
She is beautifully broken,
A stunning mosaic of shards.
