Beauty in Death

Church bells echo with
The song of the angels.
A mournful melody of tears
Hangs heavy on the breeze.
The bereaved choke on sobs,
Gasping for lighter air.
The weight of their burden
Sinks into my soul.
My heart seeks a reprieve
From the anguish of reality.
My eyes pursue a defense
For the assault on my ears.
Empty outstretched arms
Eagerly offer me comfort.
In the embrace of a stranger
The beauty in death emerges.
Love for the departed
Brings unity to the masses.
Blind no more are they
To the fragility of life.
Sunlight penetrates
Panes of stained glass
Casting color onto
The sea of obsidian.
Whispers of memories
Draw wistful smiles.
Unfamiliar hands,
Connected only by loss,
Clasp tightly in a show
Of harmony and peace.
Retrained by my sight
My ears adjust to the sound,
And now I hear hope
For a new day to come.

Star Light, Star Bright

Star light, star bright…

On the brink
Of desperation
Sanguine souls
Whisper wishes
Into the night sky.

The first star I see tonight…

With optimism,
They chant their
Illustrious illusions
To Midnight Merlins
That twinkle with prospect.

I wish I may, I wish I might…

Hope rises
Like balloons,
Seeking stars
Granting greatness,
Making dreams come true.

Have the wish I wish tonight.

Return to Home

Like Mine

I saw your bandages.
I didn’t inquire.
I didn’t need to.
I recognized your secret.
It looked like mine.

The door was ajar.
I peeked in your closet.
I saw your skeletons,
And I knew them all.
They looked like mine.

I remained reticent.
Not even you knew
What I observed.
I protected your secret
Like I did mine.

Now I wonder,
If I had unlocked
My Pandora’s Box for you,
Could I have rewritten your story
Like someone did mine?
