love

Eternity

My husband does not identify as a writer. He is an engineer, through and through. Despite that fact, that man has strung together some of the most beautiful words I’ve ever read. For example, this acrostic poem has hung on my bedroom wall for over 10 years. He didn’t even know what acrostic was when he wrote it. I love that man…

Every day I wake up from sleep and think of how blessed that I truly am. Laying there awake watching you sleep so peacefully fills me with a profound sense of happiness and love.

The love that we share is so powerful and intense that you can almost see the energy between us. Waves of electricity crackle with emotion and love.

Each passing day melts into weeks… and as months become years we will be together. Always there for each other, loving and supporting each other until death do us part.

Remember when we first met… the chance encounter that seemed to be destiny. The hours spent on the telephone exploring and connecting. We both knew right away that we were placed on this earth for each other.

Never in my wildest dreams would I have hoped to be as happy as I have become in your presence. The gift of love that you have given me has been by far the most incredible thing that I have ever received.

In the past we have been put through trials and many difficult times. Even during the very beginning of our time together we had obstacles to overcome. We have prevailed over them all… and we will continue to do so.

This has been the best time of my life. I owe it all to you my love. I am very much looking forward to sharing many more birthdays and anniversaries with you. They will only get better.

You are now twenty-nine years old and you have seen and experienced more already in your life than most dream about. You have grown into a beautiful woman filled with love and happiness. Everyone around you is fortunate to be part of your life. We are all blessed. You and I will be together for all of eternity.

The Guardian

My secrets buried

Hidden behind immense walls

He would stop at no lengths to

Discover them all

I fell in love with him when

He swore to guard them always

Clouds Like Shades

He was the moon,
The nights that it shone full,
His beams of light danced upon
The dark waters of my soul.

He was the vital sun,
Evoking my heart’s fire,
Torridity of his rays
Stoking my desire.

“I’ve fallen out of love with you”
His words came with a blow.
Like a fool I stood there mute,
And silently watched him go.

My psyche lay in ruins,
Robbed its luminescence.
I wept for him hollow tears
Alone there in his absence.

He’d pulled clouds like shades
Over my window to the skies.
He ushered in eternal nightfall
And denied me my sunrise.

Yearning

Six months ago today
She drew her last breath.
Her grace and her beauty
Unfazed by her death.

He sees her still
As he gazes into night.
She lingers there waiting
In a beam of moonlight.

Her palm extended
She beckons him come.
He cannot resist her,
His beloved phantom.

In the ray of light
They dance and they laugh,
They love and they sing
Like she had not passed.

But his truth lies where
The sunlight is burning.
His post-twilight visions
Merely a symptom of yearning.

Sons

SFoxWriting’s Alphabet Challenge ~ “S”

This challenge has given me the unique opportunity to introduce everyone to my awesome family. Today I focus all of my attention on my sons, my oldest child, Steven and my youngest, Brandon. The age difference between my boys is nearly 10 years, still they are close. Brandon stays over at Steven’s apartment. They eat pizza and play video and board games like brothers should. I see a lot of Steven in Brandon. The featured image is evidence of that. Those pictures were taken years apart in completely different states. They have the same freckles, the same eyes, the same mannerisms, the same sense of humor. However, for all of their similarities, they have just as many differences.

Steven is extremely driven. He is a biopsychology major in his 3rd year of college. His focus is cognitive psychology and he hopes to obtain a PhD. Steven receives scholarship money and keeps a job as a barista to pay most of his college expenses. He is also a captain on his school’s Ultimate team. He loves music. I lost count of how many instruments he can play. Despite his busy schedule, Steven is well balanced. He has many friends and enjoys the full college experience. Perhaps most importantly, he is an incredible big brother.

Brandon is the most laid back individual I have ever known. He is quiet, a little shy, very sweet, and loves a good lazy Sunday. His technology skills are impressive for a kid his age. At 2 years old he would belly up to the computer, manipulate the mouse, get on the internet, find the right bookmark, and navigate to his favorite game, completely unassisted. Brandon loves to help in the kitchen. It’s the only thing he likes more than screen time. He has taken several cooking classes at a local bistro.

Two boys so alike
The reflection in their eyes
Echos of one another

Two boys bound by blood
Distinctive aspirations
Minds and spirits all their own
