Little Angel

For Julie & Jason
In memory of Caleb ~

The very day we met you
We had to say good-bye,
And send you off to heaven
Where holy angels fly.

In our dreams we’ll see you smile,
And there we will hear you talk.
Our home will echo with your laughter.
In our hearts you’ll learn to walk.

You will be remembered
With each and every passing day,
Missed, loved, and adored
In every possible way.

For now God will carry you
Safely in his arms.
Loving you as we do,
Protecting you from harm.

One day we will join you
As we take our place in heaven.
God will hand you back to us —
Together once again.

TinyFeet

Tiny little feet, giant footprints on our hearts.

21 Years Ago Today

You woke me up early
“Today is the day,
Ready or not,
I am on my way!”

Then at the hospital
You gave us a scare
When the doctor uttered
“The heartbeat’s not there.”

An entire eternity
Lapsed in just 5 minutes.
The problem was equipment
And the fault found within it.

Just a few hours later
You made your debut.
Suddenly my life
Became all about you.

10 fingers, 10 toes
A perfectly round dome.
I immediately noted
Your eyes were my own.

I remember each moment
21 years ago today
Clear as though
They unfolded just yesterday.

Happy birthday
To my first born child!
Enjoy this new freedom
(Please don’t go too wild).

Stilettos

Fierce metallic luster
Framing tips of crimson,
Like tendrils of dying waves
Fleeing a black ocean.
Curve of a revolver handle
Arches into phallic heel,
Elongating naked legs
Heightening sex appeal.
Graceful rhythmic stride,
Metronome like beat,
Power surges upward
Starting at her feet.

The Succubus

Destructively beautiful
She need only insist.
He knows she is deadly
But cannot resist.

Temptress of the Night
Snakes her tongue past his lips,
“Lilith”, he moans
As he clutches her hips.

He gives in to her,
This insatiable whore,
She remains unsatisfied
And wanting still more.

Foolishly penetrates her
In the heat of desire,
Deceived to believe
He’d melt ice with his fire.

“We two become one”,
She says with a hiss,
Stealing breath from his lungs
With her ravenous kiss.

Realization too late.
He has no control.
She quenches her thirst
Then devours his soul.

The Bully

He swung again,
I staggered back.
He was angrier now
Than his last attack.

With malice and fury
His onslaught ensued,
My mouth bleeding
Entire body bruised.

His lips snarled
Around teeth so broken,
He spat hate filled words
I’d never heard spoken.

Then I heard her,
My savior had come,
“What the hell is wrong with you?
Just look what you’ve done!”

His eyes narrowed
Loathing without disguise.
But she continued,
“Pick on one your own size!”

The focus of his rage
Deviated from me.
This unruly girl
Became his newest enemy.

She didn’t stop.
Her voice gathered steam.
“Does no one love you?
Why are you so mean?”

Bristled, disheartened,
At the last thing she said,
No one did love him,
He wished he were dead.

“Just let me guess,
You have it so bad.
Were you left by Mom
And beaten by Dad?

You think you’re alone?
Welcome to my life.
This poor boy
Did not cause your strife.”

I bore witness as
Humanity reclaimed him.
Tears filled his eyes
And spilled over the rim.

Her tone changed,
For the first time seemed meek.
She reached for his face,
Wiped a tear from his cheek.

He snatched her hand.
He yanked her near,
And in that moment
She registered fear.

Then he did something
We didn’t expect.
He embraced her tightly
And he openly wept.

She whispered tenderly
When his eyes ran dry,
“I’ll be your safe place,
If want me nearby.”

With a nod of his head
His furor subsided.
He turned and he said,
“I’m sorry for what I did.”

Witness to a miracle,
I could hold no ill will.
Visible his regret
I remember it still.

Hand in hand
She led him away.
Two souls became one
In an alley that day.
