The World is a Better Place

Happy birthday to my favorite person on Earth, my husband, Brian! The world is a better place because he was born. Any man who loves like he loves deserves only the finest things in this life. I strive to always give him only the best of myself. He regularly does the same for me…

For example, one day many years ago I was struggling through a particularly tough day. He sent me an email that contained these words and changed the tone of my entire week.

The way this woman looks at me
A look of intense love
She looks at me like I am a King
Her Kingdom mine for the taking
She is my Queen
I would die for her
That intense love burns deep within
Hotter than molten lava
A feeling that has never been felt before
She looks at me for strength
I will stand like a pillar of granite for her
Fathering her children as my own
Loving them more than myself
Guiding them down the right path in life
Protecting them from harm
I am there for her
I am there for them
I will always be there
Intense Love
Always…
Forever…

I love you, Awesome.

Medication Intoxication

I seek counsel
Inside of taverns.
My shrink’s a barkeep.
My medicine burns,
But just the first sip
The next is smooth.
The bottom of the glass
Begins to soothe.
Anxiety subsides
By the next drink,
And that one’s gone
Within a blink.
“Fill ‘er up,
I’m almost there!”
Liquid courage
And not a care.
“I’ll have another…”
My words are slurred,
But lightweights stop
At the third.
I’m no quitter and
I can’t stop grinning,
Nor will the world
Keep from spinning.
My blues are cured,
I have angst no more,
Until morning when
I wake on the floor.

Somewhere in Oblivion

I cry for them to let me in,
But my voice is lost
Somewhere in oblivion.

I am more than my sin,
But a line was crossed.
I cry for them to let me in.

“I beseech you, just listen!”
They care not that I was tossed
Somewhere in oblivion.

“Please, are you not holy men?”
They return a silent frost.
I cry for them to let me in.

I plead for mercy to no one then
I whimper myself to exhaust,
Somewhere in oblivion.

“I am on my knees again!”
Words into a black hole lost.
I cry for them to let me in
Somewhere in oblivion.

Life Teaches

Life teaches
Life is short
Short term
Short and sweet
Sweet nothings
Sweet as candy
Candy kisses
Candy dreams
Dreams of stardom
Dreams come true
True stories
True friends
Friends forever
Friends and enemies
Enemies made
Enemies to forgive
Forgive yourself
Forgive and forget
Forget me
Forget the past
Past the point of no return
Past and present
Present and future
Present is now
Now you know
Now is your time
Time to love
Time is money
Money talks
Money can’t buy happiness
Happiness awaits
Happiness is key
Key to success
Key to my heart
Heart on my sleeve
Heart broken
Broken down
Broken promises
Promises made
Promises kept
Kept away
Kept in cages
Cages rattled
Cages empty
Empty pockets
Empty words
Words of wisdom
Words unspoken
Unspoken…
Wisdom…

Besieged by Demons

These nightmares
Set in like a fog,
As I sleep
They haunt me,
Slumber besieged by demons
And composed of fear.
