My soul is on display
All the world’s a critic,
Subject to their judgment
Vicious and sadistic.

Navigating within this dream
Vulnerable and naked,
Put before prying eyes
Only to be degraded.

Shackled by the fully veiled
The ridicule they impose,
If I could, I’d run away
And put back on my clothes.

  1. Reblogged this on Carrie Mayhem and commented:

The pic attached to this post was taken last October (Breast Cancer Awareness month) in response to a friend’s “Go Braless Day” photo challenge. I’m also getting kicked around by rejection after rejection, which is the topic of the poem. Those things considered, I couldn’t find a more perfect Throwback Thursday reblog.

  2. This poem speaks to how I feel sometimes. To conquer it, I run around naked and stop caring about other peoples’ opinions entirely. The most important person is you ❤

    1. I like the way you think! My thicker skin is actually developing nicely. There’s still progress to be made, but I can almost run around naked with my middle finger in the air. 😉 Thanks for the comment & support!!

      1. Any time! But seriously, no one liked me in high school because I tried much to hard, now I’m an adult and have more things to worry about than people think of me. All of a sudden everyone at my work thinks I’m cool. So weird and awesome!

  3. First, I’m sighing over your picture 😉
But most importantly, wonderful post! Personally, I’m right with you, Carrie. I’m tired of lack of support from those I would think otherwise from, and people can just say what they wish. I’ve got thick skin; I’ve no problem exposing myself (did that come out wrong thought? lol)

    1. Thank you! My thick skin is developing nicely. It stopped bothering me that 1/2 of my friends & most of my family have never read a word that I have written. I’m adjusting to the sting of publisher and agent rejection, but I’m getting there. It’s part of the job.

Well speaking of wrong… My very 1st reaction to “I’ve no problem exposing myself” was “Prove it.”… but I AM pretty wrong. haha!

      1. Well, we’re pretty much in the same boat. I’d say more than 3/4 of my friends and nearly all my family don’t even express interest. You have to believe in yourself always & help others along the way as well 🙂

lol Yeah, you are wrong, girl! 😉
